Established in January 2010, Thorn Run Partners may be among Washington's newest bipartisan government affairs firms, but its founders are Capitol Hill veterans with a combined 60+ years experience in federal lobbying, government service and policy development. Thorn Run Partners is directed by former aide to Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy (MA), Andy Rosenberg, and former aide to Republican Senator Fred Thompson (TN), Chris Lamond. Rosenberg and Lamond founded Thorn Run Partners after having spent decades at some of Washington's most prestigious lobbying and law firms. They founded Thorn Run Partners to incorporate the professionalism of seasoned firms with the strategy and tactical approaches of a boutique size, client-friendly agency.
In April 2010, Thorn Run Partners was joined by Dan Bates, former Government Relations Director for the City of Portland, Oregon. Bates, a five-year veteran of the Washington, DC lobby powerhouse Patton Boggs, splits his time between Washington and the firm's new office in Portland. He combines a robust federal lobbying practice with state-based advocacy, as well.
In July 2010, the firm was joined by Gary Palmquist, a seasoned Washington insider with over 20 years policy experience as a senior policy aide and Democratic lobbyist. Palmquist previously served as legislative director to Congressmen Dennis Cardoza (D-CA), Bob Clement (D-TN) and Ken Bentsen (D-TX). Palmquist has opened an office for Thorn Run Partners in Los Angeles, California, and will be sharing his time between the west coast and Washington, DC.
Active in Democratic and Republican political circles respectively, Rosenberg, Lamond, Bates, and Palmquist understand the legislative process — and the politics of the process — and possess the relationships necessary to be effective advocates for clients before Congress and the Executive Branch. Experience with numerous governors and state officials also allows Thorn Run Partners to represent clients before various state governments. Finally, Thorn Run Partners maintains key relationships with influential members of the Washington press corps, providing the opportunity to achieve earned media placements for clients that often lend support to their legislative efforts.
