Thorn Run Partners announced today the addition of the newest member of its team, Gary Palmquist, as well as the opening of an office in Los Angeles, California. Thorn Run Partners is one of Washington, DC's newest bipartisan lobbying shops and earlier this year opened an office in Portland, Oregon.
Palmquist, who will share his time between Washington and Los Angeles, brings twenty years of legislative and political experience to Thorn Run Partners. He enjoys extensive knowledge and expertise in many of the crucial policy areas of the day, including small business issues, taxation, health care, foreign policy and international trade.
Palmquist joins Thorn Run Partners from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), where he has worked since 2007 as a House lobbyist on small business issues. Going forward, Palmquist will continue to work for NFIB in addition to his new arrangement with Thorn Run Partners.
Prior to his work for the NFIB, Mr. Palmquist served as legislative director to Congressman Dennis Cardoza (D-CA) a leading member of the Blue Dog Coalition. In that role, he was involved in crafting Blue Dog Coalition alternatives to the federal budget, tax bills and other policy priorities.
Mr. Palmquist previously worked as legislative director to former Congressman Bob Clement (D-TN), handling his assignment to the House Budget Committee, along with tax, defense and foreign policy issues. He also served as legislative director to former Congressman Ken Bentsen (D-TX), a member of the New Democrat Coalition. Mr. Palmquist worked closely with Congressman Bentsen on international trade issues, including Most Favored Nation trade status and Fast Track trade authority.
A skilled liaison between the business community and Capitol Hill, Mr. Palmquist's pragmatic, bi-partisan approach has earned him respect on both sides of the aisle.
Founded in January, 2010, by veteran lobbyists Andy Rosenberg and Chris Lamond, who previously served as staffers to Senators Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) and Fred Thompson (R-TN), respectively, Thorn Run Partners draws its name from Rosenberg's farm located in New Creek, West Virginia. The firm was joined earlier this year by former Patton Boggs lobbyist Dan Bates.
